See the iconic Changing of the Guard at Amalienborg Palace, the home of the Danish royal family. Your guide will then take you to Torvehallerne Market, a glass-covered food market where you can try Danish delicacies, including the traditional smørrebrød (open-faced sandwich)
In the afternoon, visit the National Museum of Denmark, which explores Denmark’s Viking and medieval history. You’ll then finish with dinner along the picturesque Nyhavn canal.
Day 2: From Copenhagen to North Zealand
You’ll head north on day 2 to North Zealand, starting at Kronborg Castle in Helsingør. Explore the grand ballroom, royal apartments, and underground casemates, where you’ll see the statue of the sleeping Holger Danske. Your guide will share stories of the castle’s links to Hamlet, and depending on the time of your visit, you may even see a seasonal Hamlet performance.
Carry onto Tisvilde Hegn, one of Denmark’s oldest forests. Embark on a scenic, leisurely hike, passing beech trees and sandy trails on your way to Tisvildeleje, a secluded beach where the forest meets the sea.
Day 3: From North Zealand to Røsnæs Peninsula
Day 3 begins with a scenic drive across Zealand, passing Sejerø Bay on your way to Røsnæs Peninsula. Explore the Røsnæs Nature Reserve, starting at the Røsnæs Lighthouse for sweeping views across the strait. There are several hiking routes available, and your private guide can take you on either a leisurely or more moderate route, depending on your preference. Enjoy beautiful sea views and travel across some of the most breathtaking trails in Denmark.
In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of the Dyrehøj Vingaard. Visit the vineyard, winery, and cellars, and have the chance to try local wines made from Danish-grown grapes.
Finish with a quick visit to the nearby harbor town of Kalundborg, where you’ll walk through the old quarter and see the medieval Five-Towered Church before returning to your accommodation on the Røsnæs Peninsula.
Day 4: From Røsnæs Peninsula to Samsø Island
Enjoy a scenic ferry to Samsø Island, a small island in the Kattegat Sea, known as “Denmark’s greenest island” for its eco-friendly initiatives. Choose whether to explore the island by bike or by car. No matter what you choose, your private guide will ensure you see the island highlights, such as:
- Wind Farms: See the famous turbines that supply the island with 100% renewable electricity,
- Farm Shops & Roadside Stalls: Stop at local producers selling everything from organic vegetables and herbs to homemade jams and apple cider.
- Nordby Hills (Nordby Bakker): A glacially formed, protected nature area in the island’s north. This is an excellent place for a walk along the deep valleys with panoramic views of the sea.
- Issehoved: Head to the northern tip of Samsø, where the waves crash against the rocky coast and feel like you’re at the edge of the world.
- Tranebjerg: Explore the island’s central town with small shops, a museum, and cafés.
- Long, Sandy Beaches: Samsø has some of Denmark’s cleanest and quietest beaches, perfect for a swim or a leisurely stroll.
Finish the day with dinner by the harbor, and we strongly recommend you try the famous Samsø potatoes, considered among the best in Denmark.
Day 5: From Samsø Island to Aarhus
After a peaceful island retreat, day 5 will be spent in Arhus, Denmark’s second-largest city. You’ll take the ferry to Hou and travel through farmland and villages towards Aarhus. Start at one of Europe’s most distinctive modern art museums, ARoS. You’ll see a range of exhibits, but the highlight is “Your Rainbow Panorama,” a circular rooftop walkway with 360° views of Aarhus through the rainbow-colored glass.
Your guide will take you through the Latin Quarter, the city’s oldest neighborhood, before walking along the Aarhus River, where you can stop for a coffee or visit its trendy design shops.
Before dinner, your guide will take you to the nearby Moesgaard Museum, a unique building featuring a distinctive grass-covered roof that integrates with the rolling hills and surrounding landscape. You need to see it to picture it! The museum features some incredible archaeological exhibitions, including the Graubelle Man, a 2,000-year-old preserved Iron Age bog body.
Aarhus boasts a vibrant food scene, allowing you to dine in the evening at a Michelin-starred restaurant or a casual Nordic bistro.
Day 6-7: From Aarhus to Copenhagen
You’ll stay in Copenhagen on your final night, with plenty of scenic stops on the way there. Your first stop is Mols Bjerge National Park, a protected landscape often referred to as “Denmark’s miniature wilderness.” There’s a variety of hikes to choose from, and you can capture some stunning photos of the incredible viewpoints, including 360-degree views over the rolling hills and the sea.
Your next stop is the picturesque town of Ebeltoft. Explore the old town, wandering past timber-framed houses and charming boutiques. Visit the Old Town Hall, one of the oldest and photogenic in Denmark, before visiting the Glasmuseet Ebeltoft, a contemporary glass museum on the waterfront.
To return to Copenhagen, you can either take the long scenic drive, crossing the Great Belt Bridge or take the ferry from Ebeltoft to Zealand and carry on the journey from there. Our tour planners can discuss these options with you. Arrive in Copenhagen with one last night in the capital city.
On day 7, your tour concludes, and we will tailor this time depending on your travel arrangements. If you have an early flight, your private guide can drop you to the airport at any time. If you have some time to spare, consider visiting some of the remaining city attractions, such as Strøget, a famous pedestrian shopping street, Tivoli Gardens, or Rosenborg Castle.
